This is the highest total IDMC has recorded. It counts people displaced within their own country by conflict, violence or disasters.

The first describes how many people were living away from home at a point in time. The second counts individual forced moves during a year, so repeated displacement can increase the movement total.
These figures describe the wider context for disaster and recovery housing. They do not predict the housing needs of a specific community. A responsible local plan still starts with household profiles, site conditions, local requirements, services and the recovery timeframe.
